Avalanche Activity

The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs represent the main danger.

As a consequence of a light to moderate wind, sometimes avalanche prone wind slabs formed in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls as well as above approximately 2000 m. In addition some small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized slab avalanches are possible. This applies even in case of a single winter sport participant in some cases. As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase gradually on very steep south and west facing slopes below approximately 2200 m. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for careful route selection.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area over a wide area 20 to 30 cm of snow has fallen since Sunday above approximately 1500 m. The fresh and somewhat older wind slabs are poorly bonded with the old snowpack. Over a wide area wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. The weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to settling of the snowpack in particular on sunny slopes.
