Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs above approximately 2200 m.

The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular in steep terrain above approximately 2200 m and in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. The fresh snow and local mostly small wind slabs must be evaluated with care and prudence in particular on north to east to south facing aspects. Several small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes.

Snowpack Structure

In some regions 10 to 25 cm of snow will fall above approximately 1800 m. Down to 400 m and below snow will fall in the late morning in some regions. In some places wind slabs are lying on a weakly bonded old snowpack. Individual weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. Only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
