Avalanche Activity

Slab avalanches and moist avalanches are the main danger.

Above approximately 1800 m small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized avalanches are possible. They can also release the wet snowpack. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and in steep rocky terrain. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard crust.

Snowpack Structure

The snowpack remains in most cases subject to considerable local variations. In gullies and bowls and on wind-protected shady slopes a lot of snow is lying. The snowpack will be in most cases favourable. The weather will be mild. As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures a crust will form on the surface. The meteorological conditions will foster a gradual weakening of the near-surface layers as the day progresses.
