Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation more moist and wet avalanches are to be expected.

The new snow and wind slabs of the weekend can be released naturally especially on steep sunny slopes. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase. Field observations and artificially triggered avalanches confirm this situation. The wind slabs of the weekend are to be evaluated with care and prudence in particular in very steep terrain. In particular gullies and bowls as well as places that are protected from the wind: The fresh wind slabs can in some cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size.

Snowpack Structure

In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on the smooth surface of an old snowpack. This applies especially at high altitudes and in high Alpine regions. The weather conditions will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack on sunny slopes. Sunny slopes: As a consequence of sharply rising temperatures and partly cloudy skies a crust will form on the surface during the next few days.

Tendency

These conditions will facilitate a gradual strengthening of the snowpack.
