Avalanche Activity

Isolated snowdrifts still triggerable and possibly wet snow during the course of the day.

Avalanche danger is low. At high altitudes, small-scale snowdrift accumulations can still constitute a problem in isolated cases. On very steep shady ridgeline slopes slab avalanches can now only be triggered by large additional loading; they tend to remain small. The dangers of being forced to take a fall exceed those of being buried in snow. During the course of the day there is also a possibility that isolated small wet loose snow avalanches or glide snow avalanches trigger naturally in steep terrain.

Snowpack Structure

All in all the snowpack has settled well and is by and large stable. Above 1700 m, there is still powder snow on slopes on the shady side. In many places a nocturnal melt-freeze crust forms which can soften again during the day. At high altitudes weak layers only persist in isolated cases in small-scale snowdrift accumulations or at transitions to the old snowpack. At intermediate altitudes the snowpack is frequently moist down to the ground; on the sunny side the ground has started to become bare again.

Tendency

Avalanche situation will stay generally calm for the next few days.
