Avalanche Activity

Gliding avalanches and moist loose snow slides are possible in isolated cases.

As the day progresses individual small gliding avalanches and moist snow slides are possible. These can occur easily or triggered naturally. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on very steep grassy slopes and in steep rocky terrain.

Snowpack Structure

Sunny slopes: The surface of the snowpack will only just freeze and will already soften in the late morning. Shady slopes: Towards its surface, the snowpack is faceted and its surface consists of loosely bonded snow lying on a resilient crust. Above approximately 2000 m there are 30 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities. At low altitude from a snow sport perspective, insufficient snow is lying.

Tendency

Friday: The avalanche conditions remain favourable. Significant increase in danger of dry avalanches as a consequence of new snow and strong wind. Near the border with Ribagorça the avalanche danger will increase to level 2 (moderate) as the day progresses.
