First, pockets of soft, surface slab ranging in depth from one to two feet could be triggered in wind-loaded starting zones. Yesterday, two skiers triggered a similar slide. Both were caught, partially to completly buried, and sustained some injuries. Second, areas of older, hard slab up to 3 feet deep persist primarily on easterly, northeasterly, and northerly aspects. More substantial triggers such as large groups, snowmobiles, or surface slides may be needed to initiate these hard slabs. If caught in one of these hard-slab avalanches, serious consequences will result. Avalanches are unlikely at the lower elevations due to shallow snow depths.
