Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE above 9,000 feet. Surface slabs up to 18 inches deep persist. These slabs lie upon a hard crust on slopes succeptable to sunlight this time of year and on weak snow on shaded aspects. There is a chance that backcountry users could trigger pockets of these slabs in steep, wind loaded avalanche starting zones. Below 9,000' the hazard is LOW as snow depths are shallow and avalanches are unlikely.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )As a cold front enters the center of the state there is a chance for a few snow showers, primarily East of the divide tonight. Dry weather is expected Saturday throughout the region with highs in the upper twenties to low thirties expected. AVALANCHE HAZARD FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS/CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AND GREYS RIVER/SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAThe general avalanche hazard for Saturday is expected to remain MODERATE at elevations above 9,000 feet, and to be LOW below 9,000 feet. At these higher elevations, backcountry users could trigger pockets of soft slab up to 18 inches in depth on steep wind loaded aspects, and these pockets will become more sensitive with the afternoon warm up.
