Cold, dry snow problems still linger on higher elevation slopes. You can trigger an avalanche where recent snowfall has drifted or settled into stiffer slabs above a crust around a foot down. Use extra caution or consider avoiding steeper terrain below ridges, steep rollovers, or near cross-loaded gullies where this combination of slab and weak layer is more likely to exist.
On sunnier slopes, keep an eye out for rollerballs and pinwheels. With intense spring sun and lots of fresh snow, wet avalanches can spring up quickly and entrain enough snow to be harmful if you are in big terrain.
