Avalanche Summary

Strong winds drift recent snow at upper elevations. You could trigger an avalanche in recently drifted snow. Look for cracking in drifted snow as a sign that drifted snow is unstable. If you observe this, avoid steep slopes with pillowy-looking drifts or recent snow that feels stiff. Safer travel can be found on lower-angle slopes and wind-sheltered terrain.
