Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard is CONSIDERABLE in steep wind loaded avalanche prone areas which are underlain by old layers of weak faceted October snow. In these areas dangerous dense slabs up to three feet in depth could be triggered by riders or skiers. Be aware of terrain traps and avoid steep wind loaded gullies. A backcountry skier who triggered a new snow slab avalanche was completely buried and rescued by his companions on the west side of the Tetons on Sunday afternoon. Avalanches are unlikely in areas not underlain by old snow surfaces.
