Lo esencial

Avalanche conditions remain dangerous. Due to poor snow structure at the mid and upper elevations the weight of a single person can trigger large to very large slab avalanches on a variety of aspects. In these conditions expert terrain analysis skills and conservative terrain choices are essential for safe travel in the mountains. Avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 7,500 feet where the general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW.

At the mid and upper elevations the potential for humans to trigger slab avalanches with depths to five feet poses a serious threat to backcountry users. These dangerous slabs will fail on a deeply buried layer of faceted snow that persist on all aspects. Previous tracks are not an indication of stability.

Avalanche Discussion

Limited moisture in a cold air mass could produce some snow flurries and areas of light snowfall. Skies will be mostly cloudy. Temperatures will be mostly in the single digits above and below zero. Winds will become westerly and increase to 5 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be CONSIDERABLE. Areas of unstable snow exist. At the mid and upper elevations large avalanches could be human triggered by the weight of a single person on a variety of aspects. These deep persistent slabs are often triggered from areas where the snow is shallow and weak and are particularly difficult to forecast and manage. Tracks on a slope are not an indication of stability.
