Lo esencial

At the mid and upper elevations hard slabs to four feet in depth lie in avalanche terrain. These slabs lie upon a persistent weak layer of faceted snow. Backcountry users have the potential to trigger these hard slabs if a weak point in the slope is found which would most likely occur on cold, steep Northerly aspects where the weak layer underwent the most early season developement. At low elevations, avalanches are unlikely in the shallow snowpack. The only avalanche activity reported in several days to the center occurred yesterday at the JH Ski Area when a large explosive triggered a significant avalanche on this deep faceted layer in the Hourglass Couloir.
