Avalanche Summary

On Saturday, watch for increasing winds, drifting the recent storm snow into cohesive slabs on easterly-facing slopes. You can trigger avalanches in the drifted snow, especially in very steep terrain. Heed the warning signs of shooting cracks, whumpfing sounds, or hollow-sounding, hard snow underfoot. Also, avoid steep slopes where the snow feels moist, and you observe the new dry snow quickly getting wet. Wet avalanches can entrain a lot of snow and be hard to escape.
