Avalanche Activity
The snow sport conditions outside marked and open pistes are to some extent unfavourable.
As a consequence of new snow and a strong to storm force southwesterly wind, avalanche prone wind slabs formed over a wide area. These can be released easily in some cases. Avalanche prone locations for dry avalanches are to be found in particular on steep west, north and east facing slopes above the tree line, also on steep shady slopes in areas close to the tree line. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches easily. Caution and restraint are advisable.
Snowpack Structure
Over a wide area 10 to 30 cm of snow has fallen. As a consequence of a strong to storm force wind from southwesterly directions, extensive wind slabs formed. The fresh wind slabs are lying on top of a weakly bonded old snowpack in particular on west to north to east facing aspects. They are lying on soft layers on shady slopes. Above the tree line snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
