Avalanche Activity

Low avalanche danger, favorable backcountry touring conditions

Avalanche danger in Styria is low. In backcountry terrain, old snowdrift accumulations on east-facing slopes require caution above 2200m, naturally triggered releases of slab avalanches cannot be ruled out. Wet slides and glide-snow avalanches are possible during the afternoon. A slight daytime danger cycle needs to be heeded.

Snowpack Structure

Due to dropping temperatures the snowpack surface is regaining firmness at high altitude. The snowpack is hardened, often icy. At intermediate altitude the snow is wet and often rotten.

Weather Synopsis

On Monday, radiantly sunny weather will continue, with outstanding visibility. Onyl light to moderate SE winds at 20-40 km/hr. Somewhat warmer. At 2000 m: +1 degree on the Dachstein, -3 degrees on the Koralm. On Tuesday, it will remain sunny and mild.

Tendency

A slight daytime danger cycle is anticipated.
