In many areas, the snowpack has become weak, but until there is a load of new snow conditions will remain mostly stable. Avalanche activity today will be isolated to small pockets of wind slabs on steep slopes above 9,000 feet. Strong winds are transporting any loose snow and forming these fresh wind slabs. Although these slab avalanches will be small, they have the potential to knock someone off their feet and have high consequences in extreme terrain. In all other areas, avalanche activity is unlikely. Backcountry travelers should use safe travel protocols of traveling one at a time through avalanche terrain and carry rescue gear.

A quick-moving system is expected to impact the Tetons and Togwotee Pass forecast areas with one to three inches of new snow. Little to no accumulation is expected in the Southwest Trails forecast area. For tomorrow, skies will be mostly cloudy and the day will begin with a temperature inversion. Valley temperatures will start out below zero and the mountain in the single digits. Then the inversion should break by mid-day with valleys warming into the twenties and mountains in the teens. Southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds will be in the twenties gusting into the thirties. The avalanche hazard will remain Low in the forecast areas. Avalanche activity is unlikely except for isolated pockets of small surface slabs in steep terrain at the upper elevations. Sustained winds will continue to build these small slabs forming pockets large enough to knock someone off their feet and have high consequences in extreme terrain.
