Lo esencial

Overall, avalanche danger is decreasing, however, persistent weak layers are still present in our snowpack. Triggering one of these layers will be difficult but not impossible. Use caution when assessing open northerly slopes near treeline, and remember that shallower areas in the snowpack can be more sensitive trigger points for stubborn slabs.

    Persistent weak layers including surface hoar and faceting crusts can be found across our region and are primarily located in the top 1-2 ft of the snowpack. A number of recent natural avalanches appear to have slid on these layers, but stability tests are showing that they are becoming increasingly more difficult to trigger. While these layers continue to heal and build strength, weaknesses are more likely to be preserved on open, northerly slopes around treeline.

Avalanche Discussion

Yesterdays brief system brought another 1”-3” into the mountains accross our region and its possible we may receive some additional light flurries today. The new snow won't likely stack up enough to boost the fun meter significantly,  and similarly, it likely won't be enough to create any major new hazards.  However, depending on how the new snow bonds to the existing surface, there is potential for it to initially to be a little sluffy and slippery underfoot/undertrack.
