At the highest elevations isolated pockets of wind slab are a potential risk to humans who venture into extreme terrain like steep couloirs, chutes and cliff areas. These small slabs are likely to be less than a foot in depth and could knock a person over and carry them down very steep terrain features. Today’s sunshine will soften snow surfaces on steep sunlit aspects. Monitor conditions for increasing wet snow avalanche hazards during the warmest portion of the day.

A deepening low-pressure trough will move from the west to the east over the next few days and bring unsettled weather to the forecast area. Tomorrow is expected to be dry with partly cloudy skies. Light snowfall may develop in the afternoon over the Wyoming and Salt River ranges. Temperatures will start in the teens and then warm into the upper twenties and thirties. Northeasterly winds will veer to the east at 10 to 20 miles per hour with higher ridgetop gusts. The general avalanche hazard will remain Low in all the forecast areas. At the highest elevations, isolated areas of small wind slabs could exist and become problematic for those who venture into extreme terrain. Also, during this time of year, the spring sun can quickly soften the snow and increase the wet snow avalanche hazard on slopes that receive direct sunlight.
