Lo esencial

We have returned to winter with cooler temperatures and snow accumulation at valley bottom.

Snowpack Summary

Up to 30cm of recent storm snow over the last 48hours overlies crusts up ~2300m and dry snow at upper elevations. Aging wind slabs and fragile cornices may be found at ridge top.

Thursday: Cloudy with sunny periods. Accumulation: 5-15 cm. Greater amounts to the East. Alpine temperature: High -6 °C. Ridge wind northwest: 15-35 km/h.

Friday: A mix of sun and cloud. Alpine temperature: Low -10 °C, High -6 °C. Ridge wind west: 15-30 km/h.

Terrain and Travel Advice

  • Cornices often break further back than expected; give them a wide berth when traveling on ridgetops.
  • Be aware of the potential for loose avalanches in steep terrain where snow hasn't formed a slab.
