Avalanche Activity

SC 2.4.25 Snow patches firm overnight, thawing during the day. Sun exposed slopes developing surface instabilities. Aval Hazard Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: Little change expected. The remaining snow patches will become firm overnight and continue to thaw and diminish in extent, during the day. Stability will be generally good, isolated wet snow surface instabilities will develop on steep sun exposed terrain above 950 metres, coire rims and gully tops most affected. The main snow deposits remain on the higher mountains along the Northern boundary of the forecast area. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Another sunny and dry day with no precipitation expected. Very strong South-Easterly winds overnight will ease by early morning to become fresh for the rest of the forecast period. The freezing level will remain above the summits. Observed Weather Influences: A dry and sunny day with fresh Southerly winds. The freezing level was above the highest summits. ObservedSnowStability: The remaining snow patches continue to thaw and have good stability throughout. Steeper sun exposed slopes softened during the day. The greatest accumulations persist on North-West to North-East aspects in shady coires and gullies mostly on the higher mountains along the Northern boundary of the forecast area. The avalanche hazard is Low.
