Lo esencial

For the most part, avalanche conditions are pretty safe and we have an overall LOW danger. A MODERATE danger exists in steep terrain with recent wind drifted snow. This is more pronounced along ridges on the more east facing slopes. It's possible a person could trigger something in this terrain today.

Even though the recent wind drifted snow seems to be staying in place, I would continue to avoid the steeper slopes that have large wind drifts and cornices. As time goes on, these become more stable but it's still possible someone might trigger one today.

Special Announcement

We are very sad to report an avalanche fatality that happened yesterday above Farmington Canyon. A 18 year old, male snowmobiler was caught, fully buried and killed. Preliminary info available HERE. We will re-visit the scene today and have a full report available in the coming days. Our deepest condolences go out to the friends, family, rescuers, and everyone affected by this tragic accident.

Recent Activity

No significant avalanche activity has occurred this week on the Skyline.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: The small amount of new snow from Friday certainly improved conditions and you can find good riding in wind sheltered terrain. My partners and I hit a number of wind drifts on Saturday to see if they would crack. Things seem fairly stubborn and we did not experience any cracking anywhere we traveled including drifts along the upper ridgelines.

Mountain Weather: We'll have a mostly sunny day today with high temperatures up around 30 degrees. Wind will be generally light from the northwest shifting around to the east in the afternoon. Monday looks cloudy with slightly cooler temperatures. A minor storm will move through Tuesday night into Wednesday bringing a small amount of new snow.
