Avalanche Activity

The visible wind slabs of the last few days represent the main danger. Backcountry touring calls for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection.

The wind will be light to moderate over a wide area. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in all aspects above the tree line. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The wind slabs of the last few days can be released even by a single winter sport participant in all aspects.

Snowpack Structure

The wind has transported the new snow significantly. New snow and wind slabs are lying mostly on an icy crust. Weak layers exist in the snowpack. In many places there is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will not decrease for the time being.
