Forecast Snow Stability: Initially, unstable windslab accumulations will be present on North-West to North-East aspects before being redistributed onto East to South-East aspects above 1000 metres. The greatest instability will be mostly confined to steep wind sheltered terrain features such as the tops of gullies, crag aprons and below coire rims. Elsewhere the old snowpack will remain firm well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Snowfall during the night on storm force South-West veering North-Westerly winds. A dry day will follow and the winds will ease to strong and back to become West-North-Westerly. The 800 metre freezing level will fall to 400 metres overnight, later rising steadily to 700 metres. Observed Weather Influences: Light Southerly winds increased strong to gale force as the day progressed. A dry morning followed by snowfall through the afternoon. The freezing level was around 600 metres at midday. ObservedSnowStability: There is a dusting of snow above 600 metres. Shallow accumulations of windslab developed during the afternoon on North-West to North-East aspects above 1000 metres. Areas most affected were at the tops of gullies and below coire rims. The old snowpack which remains on North-West through North to North-Easterly aspects is firm well bonded and stable. The avalanche hazard is Low.
