CM for 28/2/22. Existing snowpack generally stable. Isolated areas of fresh windslab on NW-N-E aspects above 800m. Low hazard.

Forecast Snow Stability: The existing snowpack will remain generally well bonded and stable. Areas of fresh windslab will develop mainly on North-West through North to East aspects above 800 metres. These are expected to be isolated and shallow with steep wind sheltered locations such as gullies, corrie rims and ridge flanks most affected. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong South veering South-West winds. After a dry evening precipitation will fall as snow only on the higher summits overnight but then gradually to lower levels during the day. The freezing level will be just above the summits overnight falling to around 700 metres through the day. Observed Weather Influences: It was a dry day with moderate Southerly winds. The freezing level was around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is generally well bonded and stable. Icy conditions above 900 metres but thawing at lower elevations. The avalanche hazard is Low.
