Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs are to be assessed with care and prudence.

The new snow can be released easily or naturally in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. At intermediate and high altitudes a considerable danger of dry and moist avalanches will be encountered over a wide area. Backcountry touring and snowshoe hiking call for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and a certain restraint.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack will be generally moist. The new snow is bonding only slowly with the old snowpack. The new snow will be deposited on a weakly bonded old snowpack on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2700 m.
