Avalanche Summary

You could trigger a small avalanche in wind-drifted snow on north through east-facing slopes in the alpine. These are the slopes where new snow may be forming a slab over previously drifted or faceted snow. Avoid areas of deeper snow on steep slopes. These will be the spots that are smooth and white, instead of rocky or brushy. Even small avalanches can drag you on an unforgiving ride through shallow rocks.
