Strong wind and new snow make avalanche conditions very dangerous. You can easily trigger an avalanche from a distance and below. The most dangerous slopes face a northerly and easterly direction at high elevations. Observers have reported avalanches running over areas they usually would consider “safe zones.” Give slopes steeper than 30 degrees a wide margin. You can find safer travel at lower elevations on low-angle slopes sheltered from the wind.
