Lo esencial
At the mid and upper elevations isolated pockets of soft slab 6 to 12 inches in depth formed by southwest winds lie upon hard old snow surfaces. These shallow slabs were easily triggered yesterday in steep wind loaded starting zones and cliff areas. Once triggered these slabs could sweep skiers over cliffs, down very steep slide paths and potentially bury someone in a terrain trap. Warming temperatures will soften the mid and lower elevation snowpack as the day progresses and create the potential for wet loose and wet slab avalanches to be triggered on steep snow covered slopes.
