You can trigger an avalanche on northerly and easterly-facing slopes where thick slabs of snow rest above weak snow near the ground. Recent winds drifted snow onto many easterly-facing slopes. These can break two to four feet thick, releasing near the ground. Stick to southerly-facing slopes or slopes less than about 30 degrees steep to reduce your chance of triggering an avalanche.
