The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Weak buried layers of faceted snow exist in the snowpack. Strong ridge crest winds have drifted wind blown snow onto leeward aspects. Some natural avalanche activity was reported on north facing couloirs on Angle Mountain. Slab avalanches up to several feet deep could be human triggered today in steep wind loaded avalanche paths.

Another Pacific system will deliver about four inches of new snow to the mountains Thursday and Thursday night. Temperatures on Thursday will be cold with daytime highs rising only into the upper single digits to mid teens. Ridge crest winds will be westerly at 12 to 17 miles per hour and veer to the northwest in the late afternoon.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE above 7,500 feet. Backcountry travelers could trigger pockets of soft surface slab up to 18 inches in depth on steep slopes with fresh deposits of wind blown snow and deeper hard slabs on steep slopes underlain by weak layers of faceted snow. Due to shallow snow depths avalanches are unlikely below an elevation of 7,500 feet.
