Avalanche Activity

Wind slabs and weakly bonded old snow are to be assessed with care and prudence.

Some snow will fall from late morning. The wind slabs of last week can be released in isolated cases in particular on very steep shady slopes above approximately 2300 m. Caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. The wind slabs are barely recognisable because of the poor visibility. Avalanches can also penetrate deep layers and reach large size in isolated cases. Maintaining distances between individuals and one-at-a-time descents are recommended.

Snowpack Structure

Somewhat older wind slabs will be covered with new snow and therefore barely recognisable. Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes.

Tendency

Increase in avalanche danger as a consequence of the snowfall. This applies in particular towards the evening.
