Lingering wind slabs from over the weekend may be found at the uppermost elevations in the zone. These are most likely above treeline on shaded slopes where cold snow is being preserved. There are a couple of interfaces in the upper snowpack (about a foot below the surface) that could make it easier to trigger older wind slabs. Use extra caution if you find buried surface hoar or facets, under the drifted slabs. With a few inches of new snow on the way, be careful to consider any new, thin drifts as well. Any fresh drifts may become quite sensitive as they may form over weak, faceted snow. Look for cracking with these drifts both new and old. Practice safe travel techniques, only exposing one person to a steep slope at any given time.
