Avalanche Activity

Stormy weather and new snow.

Rain to above approximately 2000 m. Over a wide area 20 to 40 cm of snow, but less in some localities, will fall until Saturday above approximately 2500 m. The violent wind will transport the new snow significantly. The sleet will give rise to significant moistening of the snowpack in all aspects below approximately 2300 m. During the morning as well, dry and wet avalanches are possible. As a consequence of the rain medium-sized ground avalanches are possible below approximately 2300 m. The various wind slabs have bonded poorly. Even single winter sport participants can release avalanches easily, including medium-sized ones.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of mild temperatures, snowfall and the northwesterly wind, a precarious avalanche situation will develop. Snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2000 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Weak layers exist in the snowpack especially on steep west, north and east facing slopes.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will decrease gradually.
