Avalanche Activity

In very isolated cases weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack on shady slopes.

Faceted weak layers exist deeper in the old snowpack in particular in shady places that are protected from the wind. Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released in isolated cases and mostly by large additional loads.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of highly fluctuating temperatures and solar radiation the snowpack consolidated during the last few days. Snow depths vary greatly above approximately 2200 m, depending on the infuence of the wind. Also at intermediate and high altitudes from a snow sport perspective, in most cases insufficient snow is lying. Isolated avalanche prone weak layers exist in the bottom section of the snowpack especially on very steep shady slopes.
