Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Localised areas of moderately bonded windslab will be encountered in wind sheltered locations only, mainly South-East through South-West to North-West aspects above 800 metres. Gully tops and corrie rims most affected. Exposed locations will be wind scoured and icy. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Another bright and dry day is expected. Remaining cold initially with the freezing level moving up to 500 metres late afternoon. Fresh winds from the North-West easing late morning before backing to the South and strengthening. Observed Weather Influences: A bright day with occasional cloud around the tops. Temperature was -6 degrees on the tops first thing. Strong winds from the North for most of the day. ObservedSnowStability: New moderately bonded windslab is present, mainly on South-East through South-West to North-West aspects above 800 metres. Accumulations are limited in extent; poorest stability was found in sheltered locations around corrie rims, gully tops and steep convex features. Exposed terrain is icy. New cornices are fragile. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
