Avalanche Activity

Persistent weak layer problem in the northern sector!

The avalanche danger is assessed as low. The main issue is the persistent weak layer problem. The few avalanche prone locations are in the northern sector. Snow slabs can be triggered here if there is a large additional load.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack is weakened by the kinetic metamorphism (angular shapes). There is little snow on the sunny slopes.

Weather Forecast

A few snowflakes will fall along the northern Alps during the night and the westerly wind will freshen up temporarily. Otherwise, the sky will be clear with moderate westerly winds. Tuesday will then bring mostly sunny mountain weather, and the shallow patches of fog over most of the valleys will clear by mid-morning. During the afternoon, extensive cloud fields will appear in the west. The temperature at an altitude of 2000 metres will be between -5 and -0 degrees. The temperature at an altitude of 1500 metres will be between -4 and 3 degrees. Moderate winds with gusts of around 40 km/h from the west.

Tendency

Strong southerly foehn along the main ridge on Wednesday, with a front moving over from the south in the evening. No change in the avalanche danger is expected.
