The northwesterly wind has transported the loosely bonded old snow. Wind slabs have formed in particular on northeast, east and south facing slopes. Wind slabs can in isolated cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example, and on wind-loaded slopes at elevated altitudes. Unfavourable are steep slopes where recent wind slubs lie on melt-freeze crusts or smooth hardened surfaces and steep shady slopes where weak layers exist in the top section of the old snowpack.
The northwesterly wind has transported the loosely bonded old snow. As a consequence of the strong foehn wind, snow drift accumulations formed during the last three days. In particular in the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind. High altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Over a wide area wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. On sunnier slopes where temperatures are less cold, the hard surface of the snowpack will gradually soften over the course of the day. Individual weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on shady slopes.
As a consequence of new snow and wind the prevalence of the avalanche prone locations will increase on Sunday.
