Friday: 15 to 25 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 1400 m. Wednesday: 5 to 10 cm of snow, but less in some localities, has fallen above approximately 1500 m. Tuesday: 5 to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, has fallen above approximately 2000 m. The fresh snow and especially the wind-blown snow drifts, both soft and hard, cover a thin layer of old snow and partly also surface hoar. Faceted weak layers exist in the old snowpack in particular on west, north and east facing slopes. Since Wednesday on very steep slopes medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches occurred naturally, in particular avalanches with origins in high-altitude starting zones.
The weather conditions will facilitate a slow strengthening of the snowpack. The danger will not decrease for the time being.

As a consequence of new snow and a moderate wind from variable directions, avalanche prone wind slabs will form in the late morning in particular in the regions exposed to precipitation. The danger of dry avalanches will already increase in the late morning. Single winter sport participants can release avalanches. Mostly they are shallow, caution is to be exercised in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls, and on very steep slopes in particular above the tree line. In some cases the wind slabs have bonded poorly with the old snowpack. The avalanche prone locations are barely recognisable. On very steep shady slopes the avalanches can be triggered in deep layers of the snowpack. Slopes that have been little used this winter thus far are especially unfavourable. Careful route selection and spacing between individuals are recommended. As a consequence of warming, the natural avalanche activity will increase, in particular in case of releases originating from very steep starting zones.
