Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs are clearly recognisable. They represent the main danger.

As a consequence of a moderate to strong wind from northwesterly directions, mostly small wind slabs formed in particular in gullies and bowls. The avalanche prone locations are to be found especially on very steep slopes above approximately 2400 m. At high altitude the wind slabs are larger. Fresh wind slabs are easy for the trained eye to recognise but to be assessed with care and prudence. They can be released by a single winter sport participant in some cases. Isolated whumpfing sounds can indicate the danger.

Snowpack Structure

The old snowpack will be prone to triggering in some places. This applies in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 1900 m. Towards its base, the snowpack is faceted and weak. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible in isolated cases.
