Avalanche Summary

An avalanche watch was issued for the Park Range on Tuesday morning. Travel in avalanche terrain may not be recommended on Wednesday.

Avalanche conditions are dangerous. With another winter storm forecast Tuesday into Wednesday, they'll stay that way. Snow begins Tuesday afternoon, but look for the danger to increase on Wednesday as snow totals exceed a foot or more in favored areas.

For Tuesday, the most dangerous slopes are on the north half of the compass and were recently wind-loaded. Avoid these slopes. In sheltered areas, evaluate the snowpack before committing to steep slopes. If you observe cracking or sounds of whumpfing, adjust to a more conservative plan. Multiple backcountry travelers and ski patrols are reporting remotely-triggered avalanches. Remember to be aware of what's below and what's above you. Look for low-angle, southerly-facing slopes without recent drifting as a safer option.
