Lo esencial

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. New snow rests on smooth sliding surfaces making soft slabs or sloughs to 8 inches in depth easy to trigger by backcountry travelers in steep, wind-loaded starting zones. A slight potential remains for dangerous, deep hard slabs to be triggered on very steep slopes and in cliff areas.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Snow showers will continue until midnight then high pressure will begin to build over the region Tuesday with partly cloudy skies and temperatures rising from morning lows near ten degrees into the low twenties in the afternoon. In the Tetons increased winds Monday night will help firm up slabs to three feet in depth on lee slopes at upper elevations. The slabs will be easily triggered Tuesday or run naturally. Any periods of sunshine will rapidly weaken the snow surface and natural or human triggered slides will become more likely. The avalanche hazard is expected to be Considerable. In the Greys River area six to eight inches of new snow carries the chance of sloughs being triggered on steep slopes at higher elevations. The hazard there will be Moderate Tuesday. In the Togwotee Pass area there has been less snow and wind and the hazard there will be Moderate with a chance of surface sloughs on steep, lee slopes at higher elevations.
