Dangerous avalanche conditions exist. You can trigger a deadly avalanche on many different weak layers on higher-elevation north-facing slopes and wet avalanches on sunny slopes or low-elevation shady slopes. Numerous close calls and very large natural avalanches in the last week highlight the dangerous conditions we are facing right now. On Thursday, you can expect these avalanches to be easier to trigger. If you notice your feet, skis, or machine sinking more than around a foot into wet snow, consider sticking to slow-angle slopes to avoid wet avalanches.

If you want to drastically reduce your chances of being caught in an avalanche, wait a couple more days before stepping into steeper terrain. Once things cool down this weekend, the danger is expected to decrease quickly.
