Lo esencial

Predawn temperatures in the mountains are generally in the mid to upper 20s and are starting out about ten degrees warmer than the same time yesterday morning. The snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely, however the hazard will increase in the afternoon as sunshine and warm temperatures soften our snow surfaces. Once significant warming has occurred the potential for wet slides to occur should be anticipated. Steep avalanche prone slopes and extreme terrain should be avoided after significant softening of the snow surfaces occur.

Avalanche Discussion

Skies will be overcast over the next two days as the next storm system and associated cold front cross over the region. The brunt of the moisture is not expected to arrive until Thursday Night and Friday. Snowfall amounts will likely be on the light side with a total of two to five inches of new snow possible by Saturday. On Thursday skies will be cloudy with periods of scattered light snowfall in the mountains. Accumulations of an inch or two are possible at the highest elevations. Temperatures will be in the 20s and 30s. Winds will be light. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW. Cooler temperatures will create mostly stable conditions and avalanches are unlikely.
