Avalanche Summary

Most areas are scoured of snow or shallow, but look for and avoid bulbous pillows of drifted snow at upper elevations. Steep slopes below ridges and gully features are likely places to find problematic drifts. Cracking in the surface snow is a sign it can slide. Snow that sounds hollow or drum-like as you travel over it is another warning sign.

Since the snow cover is shallow in many areas, small slides near the surface can easily step down to the ground. Rocky, steep, shady slopes with variable snow cover are the most likely places to trigger a deeper avalanche.

Look for safer riding on wind-sheltered slopes and slopes less than about 30 degrees.
