Lo esencial

Deep instabilities persist in the snowpack at mid and high elevations where skiers or riders have the potential to trigger hard slabs to five feet in depth in avalanche terrain on Northerly to Easterly aspects. These slabs may release after a slope has been skied or crossed several times when a weak spot is hit. Additionally, recent strong winds, primarily from the Northwest have added dense surface slabs to three feet at upper elevations that may also be triggered on steep wind loaded terrain by backcountry users. Avalanches at low elevations are unlikely today. On Wednesday or Thursday a large slab avalanche 6-9 feet in depth released naturally on Buck Mtn. in GTNP.
