Lo esencial

In steep, avalanche prone terrain, the chance for skiers and riders to trigger wet slides will slowly increase as the day warms, especially if a significant rain event occurs. These slides, which could occur on a variety of aspects and elevations, may be in the form of wet loose sluffs or large to very large wet slabs. Monitor snow levels and the intensity of the rain, and be willing to turn around if conditions warrant. This is our final morning avalanche hazard bulletin for the 2018/19 season. Thanks to all of you that supported the avalanche forecast center by making observations and/or donations. We will continue to operate weather stations, provide daily 24 hour data summaries of those stations, and post observations and weekly snowpack summaries through May.

    Air temperatures only fell to around freezing overnight at most mountain weather stations, and cloud cover may have prevented snow surfaces from freezing up there. Crusts did not form lower down. Backcountry travelers may still be able to trigger wet slabs with depths ranging from one to three feet. The likelihood of triggering these slabs will slowly rise as the day warms, and any substantial rain on snow events could exacerbate this problem.
