The Southwest Trails’ snowpack has buried weak layers. Although the likelihood of triggering a deep slab avalanche is decreasing slowly, the possibility for human triggered events continues, particularly during the warmest part of the day. Use caution as failure could occur when a person hits a thin weak spot on a slope even after it has been tracked several times. If triggered, crown depths could be 4 to 8 feet above 8,000 feet and 2 to 4 feet below that elevation.
