Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of rising temperatures and solar radiation a crust formed on the surface during the last few days. These weather conditions as the day progresses will give rise to increasing moistening of the snowpack. This applies in particular on steep sunny slopes in particular at low and intermediate altitudes. Over a wide area wind slabs are lying on old snow containing large grains.

Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses.

As a consequence of warming during the day and the solar radiation, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on very steep sunny slopes at low and intermediate altitudes. Caution is to be exercised in particular in steep rocky terrain, as well as in areas where the snow cover is rather shallow. The fresh wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads,. They are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls and generally at elevated altitudes. Caution is to be exercised in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, when entering gullies and bowls for example. Faceted weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular at intermediate and high altitudes. Dry avalanches can in very isolated cases be released in the old snowpack and reach medium size.
