Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Fresh deposits of unstable windslab will progressively build on South-West through West to North aspects above 900 metres. Wind-sheltered terrain such as coire rims and gully tops will be most affected. Cornices will build above the same aspects. Outwith these areas, stability will be good. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: The 900 metre freezing level will drop steadily to reach 600 metres by the end of the forecasting period. Precipitation expected throughout the forecasting period, initially falling as snow above 750, later above 500 metres. Very strong to gale force winds will be East-South-Easterly overnight, backing East from dawn. Observed Weather Influences: Light snowfall near the summits, rain at lower elevations. The freezing level was initially just below the summits, later dropping to around 900 metres. Strong to very strong East-South-Easterly winds. ObservedSnowStability: The snowpack is mostly moist but generally stable throughout. Only limited drifting of new snow evident above 950 metres. Existing cornices are weak. The avalanche hazard is Low.
